Abstract
Artist Talk: What do a seventeenth-century grimoire and a twenty-first century anime have in common? More than you probably suspect! Join me as I unpack the personalities of a Ceremonial Magick staple The Lesser Key of Solomon vis à vis the characters of the Pokémon universe and how they relate to the subject matter, spirituality, and ethos behind the creation of my 2019 zine, the Ars Goetiamon. Interwoven within this pop culture discussion, is a discourse on the nature of transgressive spirituality and artistic creation outside of the traditional historical canon. Following this talk, a zine swap will be held.
Presenter Biography
Terri Jo Frew (she/her) is a multi-disciplinary artist, educator, and occultist who currently serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Visual Art at Michigan Technological University (Houghton Michigan). She holds an MFA degree from Concordia University (Montréal Canada), maintains an active contemporary studio practice, and exhibits her art internationally.
