Abstract

The concept of two messiahs was prophesized by the Qumranites as well as many others. These two would be a kingly and a priestly messiah. Did these two manifest as described in the nativities of Matthew and Luke? Do they align with the streams of Cain and Abel? Answers to such questions exist in the works of Rudolf Steiner, 1861-1925, whose Anthroposophy is based on what he called the Mystery on Golgotha, the Turning Point in Time. Remarkably, Leonardo da Vinci somehow came to know the answers to these questions while painting his Adoration of the Magi which he abandoned to depict the two messiahs in his original Virgin of the Rocks. How did Leonardo come to know this? There are a few possibilities with the most likely being that Leonardo received an initiation via Marsilio Ficino at the Accademia Platonica that began following the lectures by the hierophant Giorgio Gemistus Plethon in 1438-1440. The lecture will show that the Leonardeschi revealed an esoteric Christology remarkably similar to that Rudolf Steiner’s.
