Communing with the Beverage of the Gods: A Cacao Ceremony & Introduction to Q’eqchi’ Maya Spirituality

This experiential workshop will introduce participants to foundational elements of Q’eqchi’ Maya cosmology and spiritual practice through an experiential cacao ceremony. After a brief teaching on the twenty archetypal energies known as naguales, participants will learn how cacao functions as both sacred medicine and a relational technology of belonging—an ancestral practice historically honored as the beverage of the Gods. A rather recent phenomenon, cacao ceremonies anchored in an understanding of the Maya cosmogony have the capacity to boost one’s mood, cultivate feelings of joy and compassion, and nurture a group’s sense of belonging.
