Abstract
I will present a consideration of Dr. Howard Thurman and The Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco. I am the Presiding Minister of the church. Although Dr. Thurman is somewhat well-known, it is because of his books and many other books written about him. I believe his years at the church, with Mrs. Thurman, were profoundly meaningful years and could provide guidance for us in our current time of divisiveness and alienation. Based on Howard Thurman's concept of 'contact with fellowship', this fully inclusive, spiritual community provides opportunities for connection beyond any categories creating a sense of belonging that encompasses all life.
Presenter Biography
I am the Presiding Minister of The Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples. I have been with the church since 1999 and was Assistant Minister and Co-minister before stepping into my current role after the death of our Presiding Minister, Dr. Dorsey Blake. Dr. Blake was a professor and part of the administration of the University of Creation Spirituality, founded and led by Dr. Matthew Fox. I received my Masters degree, as well as a Doctor of Ministry degree from that institution. I am also a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in private practice after years of work in the field of homeless services, as well as substance use treatment.
