Abstract
Einzelton is a dynamic duo featuring Canadian violinist Emmanuel Vukovich and
American concert saxophonist Michael Hernandez. Inspired by the legacies of German-Swiss violinist Adolf Busch and German classical saxophonist Sigurd Raschèr, the duo explores Rudolf Steiner's philosophy that future music will expand tonality and deepen our connection to the “Single T one.” Collaborating with bold contemporary composers, Einzelton presents “Verses in Color,” a program showcasing five new works inspired by Raphael's paintings. This innovative concert features compositions by Michael Denhoff, Everette Minchew, Miklos Maros, Dimitri Terzakis, and Josiah Catalan, merging visual art with musical creativity into a single unique experience.
Presenter Biographies
Called “a true musician” by conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Canadian violinist, composer, artistic director and collaborative leader Emmanuel Vukovich is emerging internationally as an artist of technical virtuosity, musical integrity and artistic maturity. Vukovich performs as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader across North and South America, Europe and Australia in venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Musikverein with ensembles such as the Wiener Philharmoniker & Staatsoper and has worked with composers such as György Kurtág. Vukovich is first violinist of the Lloyd Carr-Harris String Quartet, and founder and artistic director of the Parcival Project, Resilience Project, Bach Odyssey, and Concerts Saint-Grégoire. Vukovich recently released his debut solo album RESILIENCE, inspired by the cross-cultural legacy of Béla Bartók.
Michael Hernández is an acclaimed soprano saxophonist and Assistant Professor at San Jose State University. A featured soloist on NPR’s Performance Today, he has performed at major festivals and inspired 45 new works for saxophone. His research explores historical performance, saxophone acoustics, and their ties to Anthroposophy.
