Abstract

The sense of belonging is a complex yet fundamental human need that supports mental, emotional, and physical health. Hindu philosophy provides a bridge between our senses and our connection to self, each other, earth, and the cosmos. More recently and additionally, American psychologist Dr. Robert Plutchik proposed a psychoevolutionary model of emotions, visualized through his Wheel of Emotions, which draws parallels between emotional experience and a color wheel. Like colors, primary emotions vary in intensity and blend to form new emotions. By slowing down, senses and emotions nurture a deeper sense of belonging with ourselves, individuals, and communities.
