Abstract

Performance: This presentation will begin with a scholarly presentation focused on my practice-based research, followed by a screening of my 10-minute artist's film 'Internal Shell of the Cuttlefish' (2025). In an attempt to bring together spirituality and ecology through creative practice, this film draws inspiration from the philosophical system of animism focusing specifically on ancient Celtic and modern Irish Neo-Shamanic practices. Using the genre of critical science fiction, the film attempts to rethink our relationship with the more-than-human world based on an ecological spiritual worldview imbued with the values of reciprocity, care, interdependence, empathy, respect, reconnection and wonder.
