Abstract

Workshop: This interactive workshop explores Kirtan, the sacred musical tradition of Sikhs, as a powerful tool for emotional, mental, and spiritual healing. Participants will experience a live demonstration of the Dilruba, a traditional Sikh stringed instrument, and learn how specific raags and breathing patterns create meditative soundscapes. The session delves into the decolonial reclamation of Sikh music, highlighting its role in addressing intergenerational trauma and promoting resilience. Through guided meditation, chanting, and personal storytelling, attendees will engage deeply with the transformative power of sacred music, discovering its relevance in both spiritual practice and contemporary therapeutic contexts.

Presenter Biography

Jasvir Kaur Rababan MBE is a global faith leader, PhD researcher, Sikh scholar, musician, and healer specialising in the intersection of Sikh sacred music, decolonisation, and mental health. Honoured with a Queen’s Award for her service to the Sikh community, Jasvir reclaims Kirtan as a transformative tool for healing, resilience, and spiritual wellness through innovative integration of tradition and neuroscience.
