Mapping Belonging: How Inclusion and Individuation Unfold Across the Life Course

This workshop explores belonging as both structural responsibility and developmental process. While contemporary scholarship rightly emphasizes justice, inclusion, and institutional accountability, participants will examine an additional dimension: belonging as a biographical and existential task unfolding across the lifespan. Drawing on biographical frameworks informed by anthroposophical developmental thought, the session distinguishes between horizontal belonging (equitable participation within institutions) and vertical belonging (the capacity to inhabit one’s life coherently while engaging community). Through structured biographical mapping of early life phases (0–28) and facilitated dialogue, participants will explore how given, contested, and consciously chosen belonging emerge across developmental transitions, generating new insight into the relationship between social justice and individuation.
