Abstract

Performance: In Sanatana Dharma, Om is the seed vibration (nāda) of cosmic creation. Nāda Yoga, the Yoga of Sound, teaches that individual suffering is transcended by harmonizing the inner nāda with Om, integrating mind, body, and spirit. Sound is ubiquitous in the Hindu visual landscape and is particularly important in Bhakti (devotional) traditions. Deities like Goddess Saraswati with her veena and Lord Śiva with his damaru are ubiquitous in cultural memory. By synthesizing the ancient wisdom of Yoga and Bhakti, Carnātik music embodies Nāda Yoga, transforming emotional experiences into elevated states of consciousness. This session features an interactive demonstration of Carnātik music as a devotional harmonizing practice.
