Performance: Poetic Inquiry

Abstract
Studying spiritual texts in scholarly circles brings a particular set of challenges. Is there a way to read spiritually, instead of intellectually? What might that look like? What type of knowledge might it lead to? In order to answer these questions and more, I did a poetic inquiry into two commonly studied texts in anthroposophy: Foundations of Human Experience and How to Know Higher Worlds. In this poetry performance, I will share both published and unpublished poems that meditate on the meaning-making process.
Presenter Biography
Dr. Alison Davis is an educator, author, and artist based in Northern California. Her work has been widely published in both literary and scholarly publications and in two collections of poetry, yet she considers her willingness to be like Rumi and gamble everything for love as her greatest credential.
