Poetry and the Art of Being Alive

Abstract
Performance: In a blend of lyric essay, poetry and spiritual storytelling, this performance seeks to explore the heart of the artistic act—creation—what creation is, what it means to create, to be a responsible steward of creative ability, and to honor the forces, like Mother Earth, whose artistry shapes our lives. The performance also traces the development of my own artistic practice, poetry, and the ways in which poetry can transcend language and take up residence in the flesh, inspiring a living poetry of heightened attention, feeling and caretaking, which ultimately saved my life and became a vital, spiritual practice.
