Abstract

Artist Talk: Queer Safe Space is a work in progress that explores safety and belonging within the LGBTIQ+ community through an immersive installation. The project features painting-banners and "Estampitas" (sacred photographs) depicting queer and non-binary beings inspired by divine protectors, envisioned as guardians of the community. These banners blend traditional saintly iconography with modern queer identity, crafting a visual language of protection, resilience, and solidarity. Central to the installation is the video piece Rituales Queer, which reflects on magic, collective rituals, and the interconnectedness of human and nonhuman entities within a global ecosystem shaped by the climate crisis.
