Abstract

Performance: The film, Soma; how do you hold, weaves digital recordings of artistic and spiritual practices and moments of inspiration. In the style of guerilla filmmaking, which involves the strategic use of the environment and minimal equipment, the film embraces the nuances of vulnerable and joyful moments expressed through the body. Nourishing self and healing wounds through practices that invite conocimiento is a spiritual practice and form of activism that disrupts hierarchical systems. As a form of spiritual activism, Alma Gabriela, integrates artistic expression, spirituality, and research to liberate herself from personal/intergenerational traumas as she reclaims her indigenous Maya ancestry.
