Abstract

Workshop: Using the movement art of Eurythmy to reveal the artistic principles at work in Bach’s Passacaglia & Fugue, this presentation translates the numerology of the composer’s creative principles into a systems thinking cosmography.

Steeped in theological numerology, Bach’s masterpiece is a musical Credo whose 33 thematic entries unfold as a cosmological narrative drawn from the collective imagination of the Zodiac and Planets. Archetypal qualities found in cultures throughout the world give expression to the mathematical reversal of space as worked with in projective geometry: the human heart as center of artistic feeling, and the spiritual periphery of the plane at infinity.
