Abstract

Evidence of an aesthetic impulse to transcend the subject-object dichotomy and reveal ultimate reality surfaces in some nonobjective abstract visual art. When that impulse occurs, one encounters the numinous. Non-dualism is germane to spiritual impulse. Key focus points include spiritual impulse and the object conundrum; non-objective abstract art; art and artist commentaries. Additional themes referenced as wonder as disruption and revelation in consciousness are also referenced. Three artists are referenced here—Wassily Kandinsky, Hilma af Klint, and Adi Da Samraj, along with references to other relevant work. In addition, ancient yoga art demonstrates spiritual sensibilities to revelatory work.
