Abstract

Abstract: Goal of the workshop is to provide students with a common definition of decolonization and uncolonization. To provide useful, real life tools to interrupt narratives that confuse the terms, uncolonization with decolonization at the expense of indigenous peoples globally.

Presenter bio: Tanya Rodriguez is a long time community activist and fearless leader with decolonization work and an educator who focuses on healing implicit bias, awareness development of cultural appropriation and tools to mitigate spiritual extractivism. In 2018, Tanya founded Global Decolonization Initiative, a Facebook group with over 6.7k active members. Tanya is also former Commissioner Chair serving with the Asheville Human Relations Commission. Tanya is a vocal advocate of Indigenous rights and a prolific writer spanning from op-ed’s in the CItizen Times, to numerous medium articles. To date, Decolonization, A Guidebook for Settlers Living on Stolen Land, on Medium has received over 14.8K views. Tanya comes from a family of activists with a nationally recognized Civil Rights leader she calls mom.
