Decolonizing Garden Design: A Workshop on Ecological and Spiritual Resistance
Publication information:
Abstract
Abstract: This workshop will offer a case study in using garden design as a practical tool of spiritual resistance and decolonization, offering participants information and resources to do the same in their own homes and institutions. We will reference the garden that I have designed and am implementing at Yale Divinity School in New Haven, CT. The project, a kind of “living land acknowledgment” that is designed around a meditation labyrinth, is a project that models how to tangibly address the colonial history of the land on which many of our institutions are built.
