Abstract

Abstract: "Who Broke the Sun Child's Heart" is a lyric, musical essay that touches on themes of encountering spirituality in nature, Afro-diasporic ancestry, the end of childhood, and environmental destruction. Rooted in my experience growing up in suburban Southern California, my essay combines personal stories of my relationship to the natural landscape, my multi-layered relationship to Eritrea (my father’s country of origin), and philosophical musings on spirituality and our changing earth. In this performance, I will read prose and share original musical compositions.
